The porcelain is clay-dyed (meaning the pigment is added at the slip stage) to provide depth and durability of color. This means that, if needed, scratches can be buffed from the vitrified surface with an abrasive powder or cream without causing damage to the finish. The interior of each piece is finished with a clear glaze while the exterior is left unglazed, giving a matte stone-like surface.
